Iran calls for the cooperation of its neighbors to deal with dust storms in the region

In response to the tweet of the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the climate change meeting in Egypt and Afghanistan's absence, Iran's special representative for Afghanistan says that the most important risk caused by climate change for our region is dust storms.


Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Kazemi Qomi, Iran's special representative for Afghanistan affairs, responded to the tweet of the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the climate change meeting in Egypt and Afghanistan's absence, saying that the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR6) It was published last year and warns that the most important risk caused by climate change for our region is dust storms, storms that are one of the main reasons for the drying of water bodies, especially wetlands.
 
According to Mr. Qomi, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as in the past, believes that cooperation with its neighbors is necessary to face the most important risk caused by climate change in the region (dust storms). Undoubtedly, securing the environmental rights of the region, including Hamon's international wetlands, will greatly help to reduce this risk.
 
Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tweeted in response to the global meeting on climate change without the presence of Afghanistan in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, saying that Afghanistan has lost 2 billion dollars this year due to climate change.
 
Mr. Qomi had previously said in the 26th Gemini of the current year that contrary to the flow of water from upstream to downstream, the consequences of desertification caused by the drying up of lakes and wetlands will affect. According to the United Nations, one of the most important ways to deal with this problem is the cooperation of neighbors to reduce the effects of unbalanced human development, especially in common basins.
 
Ramez Al-Akbarov, the deputy coordinator of the United Nations humanitarian aid affairs in Afghanistan, said at the 2022 climate change meeting in Egypt that the people of this country are standing on the precipice of devastating climate change and the current government in Afghanistan should take the threats caused by it seriously.
 
Mr. Al-Akbarov said that Afghanistan is currently prone to frequent natural disasters that cause loss and damage to lives, livelihoods, houses and infrastructure.
