19 Jan 2023 - 16:22

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced the possibility of holding presidential elections in this country one month earlier than the scheduled date.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the possibility of holding presidential elections in this country one month earlier than the scheduled date.

The elections were supposed to be held on May 18, 2023

Erdogan did not mention the specific date of these elections, but implicitly said that these elections will be held on the 73rd anniversary of the victory of the Conservative Democratic Party in the first free elections in Turkey, which the country experienced in 1950.

In this way, there is a possibility of holding early elections on May 14.

After separating from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's party, Adnan Mendris founded the Democracy Party in 1946.

This party won the free elections of Turkey on May 14, 1950.

Erdoğan said on Wednesday at a meeting of the representatives of the Justice and Development Party, referring to Mendris's words on May 14, 1950: "Enough, the nation will have its say... and victory came out of the ballot boxes."

Erdogan also said about his opposition six-party coalition: Our nation will respond to the six-party coalition on the same day.

The coalition of six parties are the parties that are trying to block Erdogan's return to the presidency.

These parties announced that if they win the elections, the parliamentary system will once again rule in Turkey.
