Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan announced today, Wednesday, December 5, that it has resumed the export of electricity to Afghanistan.
 
According to Rianavosti, Uzbekistan had stopped supplying electricity to Afghanistan since the 24th due to the severe drop in air temperature and the lack of natural gas.
 
The lack of gas had created problems for fuel supply in Uzbekistan's thermal power plants.
 
The representative of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan confirmed that the electricity supply from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan has been resumed today and that the country supplies electricity to the neighboring country based on previous agreements.
 
In 2019, the National Electricity Grid of Uzbekistan signed a take-or-pay contract with Da Afghanistan Breshna Company (DABS) to supply up to 6 billion kWh of electricity annually to an Afghan utility for ten years. In 2022, about 2 billion kilowatt hours were supplied to Afghanistan.
 
Afghanistan supplies more than seventy percent of its electricity needs from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Iran.
 
Electricity in some of these countries has been cut off from time to time for various reasons and reconnected after weeks or months of waiting.
