He added: China has invested heavily in increasing its modern military capabilities, including long-range missiles that can reach all NATO territories. The country has also rapidly ramped up its nuclear capabilities.
Stoltenberg said: We see China threatening countries, for example in the South China Sea region. This issue is very important for global trade and freedom of navigation.
In another part of his interview, NATO Secretary General said: We must deal with global threats and challenges, including the threats posed by China. One of the ways to deal with these threats is to work more closely with partners in the region.
Stoltenberg also called North Korea a "threat to global security."
NATO Secretary General is scheduled to visit Seoul today (Sunday, December 9) for a two-day visit. During this trip, he will meet with Yoon Suk Yeol, the President of the Republic of South Korea and other government officials of this country.
During this trip, he is expected to discuss the cooperation between NATO and South Korea in the fields of security, cyber security and technology.
