Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador accused the Pentagon of spying on his government on Tuesday (April 18) after information was leaked to the US media and said he would begin declassifying the information of the armed forces to protect national security.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): His comments came a few days after the Washington Post reported on the apparent tensions between the Mexican Navy and the Mexican Army, citing a US military briefing.
 
"We now have to protect the information of the Navy and the Department of Defense because we are the target of Pentagon espionage," López Obrador said at his daily press conference.
 
However, a Pentagon spokesman said it has a "strong defense partnership" with Mexico's army and navy, and that the two entities face common challenges "while respecting each other's sovereignty and respective foreign policy agendas."
