Pakistan envoy: Recognition of IEA would be decided by UNSC permanent members
Pakistan’s new special representative for Afghanistan said that, Recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) would be a decision that five permanent members of the UN Security Council would make.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)_Monitoring, Asif Durrani said this while interviewing with the Center for Research and Security Studies in Pakistan: “I think it would be a decision by the major countries, especially Permanent five. They are looking towards that. If the permanent five members of the Security Council do either way, that will have an impact.”

Meanwhile, he stressed that the people of Afghanistan urgently need humanitarian assistance and called the international community to be “compassionate” with the Afghan people.

“If they are not compassionate to the ruling dispensation in Afghanistan at the moment, so at least they have to be compassionate with the people. If the UN statistics are correct, almost 95 per cent of people are below the poverty line, and they can become a special liability for Pakistan if the economic situation deteriorates. Their first port of call would be Pakistan,” Durrani said.

A day before, the Russian FM, Sergey Lavrov, said that Russia could not begin recognizing the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan as long as an inclusive government is not formed.

The Foreign Minister of Russia conditioned the recognizing the Islamic Emirate regime including “formation of an ethically and politically balanced government, more vigorous to combat terrorism and drug trafficking and guarantees of the basic human rights for the people in Afghanistan including Tajiks,” he said.
