The World Health Organization announced that since the beginning of this year, 35 positive cases of Congo fever have been registered in Afghanistan.


Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The World Health Organization has published a report saying that in the week ending June 17, a total of 35 new cases of Congo CCHF fever were registered in the country.
 
According to the report of the World Health Organization, since the beginning of this year, a total of 359 positive cases have been reported, of which 114 cases (31.8%) were caused by the spread of the disease and the rest were sporadic cases.
 
In total, since January 2023, 11 deaths have been reported (3 in Balkh, 2 in Kandahar, 2 in Jawzjan, 2 in Kabul, and 1 in Takhar and Samangan provinces).
 
The most positive cases in the past 2 months were in the southern (Kandahar and Helmand), northern (Balk) and central (Kabul) provinces.
 
Based on this report, usually 15 thousand cases are registered worldwide in a year.
 
Congo fever is a type of virus that carries blood with itself, and usually between 10 and 40 percent of people who get infected with this virus die.
