25 Sep 2023 - 13:47

Officials in the Ministry of Industry and Trade say that Afghan businessmen have exported nearly 800 million dollars’ worth of goods to different countries in the first 6 months of this year.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Abdul Salam Akhundzada Javad, the spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, told AVA reporter today Monday (September 25, 2023) that goods worth 759 million dollars have been exported abroad since the beginning of the solar year.

Javad clarified that most of these goods were exported to Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Iraq, United Arab Emirates and other countries.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the country's export items are coal, saffron, dry and fresh fruits and agricultural products.

Javad makes these statements while last year, for the first time, Afghanistan managed to export goods worth more than 2 billion dollars.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized that efforts are underway to break the record of last year in the field of exports.

Meanwhile, Khan Jan Alokozay, a member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, told AVA reporter that the Islamic Emirate gives priority to exports and has created a special policy for exports in customs.

Alokozay added that both at the ports and at the borders, in the first step, the car of export goods goes through the steps, followed by other vehicles.

Nevertheless, the traders emphasize that the air corridors should be reactivated in order to provide more ease in their exports, especially the export of pine nuts.

Mehboobullah Mohammadi, one of the businessmen of the country, pointed out that there are still many problems facing the country's exports, one of which is the lack of a regular export program to China, America, Europe, and Arab countries, and the second problem is the air corridor.

He added that if traders export their items through Pakistan, they will face transit problems.

At the same time, economic experts say that although the volume of the country's exports was small compared to the imports in the past years, it has been continuously increasing.

They emphasize that this increases the hope for Afghanistan's economic growth in the coming years.

Ahmad Hussain, an economic expert, told AVA reporter that the increase in the country's exports in the last two years will improve the balance and reduce inflation in Afghanistan.

He added that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has succeeded in this field by adopting effective policies.

This is while the World Bank recently reported that Afghanistan's exports increased by four percent in the first 3 months of this year and that the country exported goods worth 600 million dollars from January to April.

In the report of the World Bank, it was stated that the inflation rate of Afghanistan has decreased significantly compared to previous years.
