21 Feb 2024 - 12:42

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, said that about half of the population of Afghanistan needs help this year.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Antonio Guterres says that the organization was able to receive only three percent of the budget needed to deal with the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

The Secretary General of the United Nations has written on X social network that about half of the population of Afghanistan needs help this year.

He added: "Many Afghans are poor, struggle to prepare their own food and live without access to education, health care and work."

Earlier, the United Nations Organization for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid in Afghanistan (OCHA) also announced that despite the need for urgent aid for the Afghan people in 2024, the United Nations partners have reduced their aid to the country.

This institution has not said anything about the exact figure of aid reduction.

According to the information of this institution, about 10.3 million Afghans are in need of immediate aid.

Also, according to the findings of international organizations, 23.7 million people in Afghanistan need humanitarian aid to survive this year.

This is despite the fact that earlier OCHA announced that this institution will allocate 100 million dollars in seven countries, including Afghanistan, to fight the humanitarian crisis.
