The Security Council of the United Nations will vote today on the draft resolution extending the mission of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Kabul (UNAMA).

Afghan News Agency (AVA): The meeting to vote on the draft resolution extending the mission of UNAMA, prepared by Japan, will be held on Friday, March 16.

If the UNAMA mission was extended last year, it will end tomorrow (Saturday, March 17).

According to the report of the Security Council during the marginal meetings about the extension of the UNAMA mission, most of the members agreed on the text of this draft.

The United States, England and France insisted on adding a text about human rights, especially women and girls, in this resolution, while China and Russia objected to this draft and changed the UNAMA reporting cycle once every three months. Afghanistan needs humanitarian aid. The economic situation and the frozen assets of the country.

The draft presented by Japan does not emphasize the change of UNAMA's duties and priorities, and the Council has the full support of Raza Otunbayeva, the special representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan Affairs, and the work of this institution in Kabul, and considers it vital.

If the draft submitted by Japan is approved by the Security Council, the mission of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) will be extended for another year until March 17, 2025.

In this regard, the Islamic Emirate said yesterday that UNAMA has not been impartial in reporting on the situation in Afghanistan and has not acted as it should, although the continuation of the mission is considered important.

The first preliminary draft in this case was presented on February 29 and the next final draft after intense negotiations among the members of this council was presented on March 21.

The UN Security Council cited the reason for the delay as more opportunity for a vote on the extension of the organization's mission in Afghanistan.
