Iranian Interior Minister
Nader Yar Ahmadi, Advisor to the Minister and Head of the Center for Foreign Citizens and Migrants Affairs of the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran, attended the 75th Annual Meeting of the Executive Committee of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Geneva (May 23-27). The situation of refugees and migrants in the country, especially Afghan citizens, is being discussed with UN officials and other organizations and countries.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Afghanistan's Interior Ministry said in a statement that the annual meeting is attended by high-ranking officials and representatives of international organizations on refugee issues.
At the meeting, representatives and officials from various countries will speak about the international community's commitment to support refugees and their host countries and the Commission's programs.
According to the report, the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, headed by Dr. Nader Yar Ahmadi, Advisor to the Minister and Head of the Center for Foreign Citizens and Migrants Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran participated in the meeting.
In addition to speaking at the main meeting, the Iranian delegation met separately with Mr. Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Raouf Mazo, Assistant Commissioner for Operational Affairs; Ms. Haikyung Jun, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as a number of officials from the countries present at the meeting will meet and discuss joint cooperation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is insisting on deporting illegal Afghan migrants from the country, and according to the Iranian police chief, they plan to deport two million illegal migrants by the end of this year.
According to local officials in Herat, 55,000 migrants have returned to Afghanistan from Iran through the Dogaron/Islam Qala border crossing in the past month, mostly as forced deportations. In addition to the crossing, many migrants are also being returned to Afghanistan from the Silk Bridge border in Nimroz province.
