Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: A training program on climate change and the environment for media officials and experts was held today (Tuesday, December 17) by the Environment Empowerment and Humanitarian Aid (ERA) Foundation in cooperation with the Afghan Free Journalists Union and the National Environmental Protection Agency in Kabul, with the presence of Islamic Emirate officials, university professors, environmental experts, and dozens of media representatives and journalists.
Maulvi Mati-ul-Haq Khalis, the head of the National Environmental Protection Agency, said in this program: The media is of great importance in various sectors, especially in combating climate change and protecting the environment, although some foreign media outlets are active in spreading rumors and projection.
He pointed out that Afghanistan's role in climate change is zero, adding that the country has suffered many economic losses from climate change.
The head of the National Environmental Protection Agency blamed the industrialized and developed countries of the world for the increase in climate change in the world, and stated that floods, storms and earthquakes are among the losses inflicted on the people of Afghanistan.
Referring to the increase in air pollution in the winter season in Kabul, Mr. Khalis added that people should avoid using smoke-producing fuels.
He called on the domestic media to convey the problems of the people in the field of climate change and environmental problems to the international community.
This official of the Islamic Emirate described environmental issues and climate change as a human rights issue and said that the international community should not politicize these issues and that the country is currently facing a humanitarian crisis.
Hojatullah Mujadedi, head of the Afghan Free Journalists Union, also said in this program: The issue of climate change and the environment is an important and vital discussion that has not received much attention before.
He described the media as a powerful tool and instrument in raising awareness about climate change and preventing environmental damage, adding that the role of the media in informing government officials and the international community about people's problems is important.
The head of the Afghan Free Journalists Union considered greater attention to the issue of climate change and the environment as a necessity in the current situation and called for the preparation of more environmental reports by the country's media.
Hojatullah Mujadedi noted that it is the duty of the media to play a role in attracting environmental aid and climate change in the country.
Mohammad Yousef Hamidian, head of the "Raha" organization, called for promoting a culture of environmental protection through the country's media. He stated that the role of the media in raising awareness of environmental protection is important, adding that environmental information, along with media activities, will yield good results in environmental protection.
According to the officials of the Raha Foundation, this training program will continue for three days, one of which will be dedicated to female journalists.
It is worth noting that Afghanistan has suffered serious losses from the damage caused by climate change in the country. Officials of the Environmental Protection Agency participated in the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Azerbaijan for the first time this year after the Islamic Emirate came to power.
