Lebanese Parliament to Hold Session to Elect New President
“Nabieh Berri,” the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, called for a session on Thursday, January 10, to elect the country’s new president. Meanwhile, the “Loyalty to the Resistance” faction, a Hezbollah-affiliated movement in the Lebanese Parliament, warns that no foreign factor can impose a president on the people of this country.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): “Nabieh Berri,” the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, today (Tuesday, January 7) officially called for a session of the parliament to elect a president on Thursday, January 9.
Earlier, Hassan Fadlallah, a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance faction (affiliated with Hezbollah) in the Lebanese parliament, stated: The election of the president is the responsibility of the Lebanese, which is carried out through the parliament, and no one outside, no matter how much pressure they apply and under any title or request, can impose a president on the Lebanese people, or dictate conditions to them regarding the election process or how to manage their country.
In this regard, Hussein Al-Hajj Hassan, a representative of the Loyalty to the Resistance faction, also stated: Our candidate is Suleiman Franjieh, the head of the "Al-Mardeh" movement. The president must have all the necessary characteristics and protect the sovereignty of the country.
This is while the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported that the candidate considered by Saudi Arabia to assume the post of president is Joseph Aoun, the commander of the Lebanese army.
Some sources have announced that, given the lack of agreements, there is a possibility that the Lebanese parliament session on Thursday will not lead to the election of a president.
