Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Sources in the Israeli cabinet told the Hebrew-language 12 channel: "There are some places in southern Lebanon where the army plans to remain for many years and not leave."
These statements come after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced late last night that the "first phase" of the withdrawal of Israeli army forces from southern Lebanon (from the western part, Naqoura and the villages in this area) has been completed.
Yesterday, Jasper Jeffers, commander of the ceasefire monitoring mechanism in southern Lebanon, visited the headquarters of the Fifth Division of the Lebanese Army, which has replaced the Israeli army in the western part in recent days.
The Lebanese army also handed over to the American general the ammunition depot it had seized from Hezbollah in Lebanese villages in the past few days. The weapons are expected to be destroyed in the coming days. Jasper Jeffers, an American general, also praised the Lebanese army.
On the other hand, the Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post, citing an informed source, claimed that the Biden administration had conveyed a message to Israeli officials about the implementation of the agreement with Lebanon, saying: “It is important that Israel does not behave in a way that shows that it is violating its obligations.”
The 60-day ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon entered its implementation phase, and it is planned that with Hezbollah’s withdrawal to the north of the Litani River and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the border areas, the occupying Israeli army will also evacuate the occupied areas in southern Lebanon; a commitment that Israel does not seem willing to fully implement.
