Afghanistan seeks to sign natural gas transit agreement with Russia
The head of the Russian Chamber of Commerce in Afghanistan has said that Kabul is interested in signing a gas agreement with Russia. The Russian official told Sputnik that Kabul wants to sign an agreement with the Russian side on the transit of 50 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas through Afghanistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Rostam Khabibulin, head of the Russian Trade Center in Afghanistan, told Sputnik news agency on Friday that the agreement is scheduled to be signed at the upcoming Moscow Format meeting in Afghanistan. It will be finalized in Kazan this year.
He added that the pilot phase of liquefied petroleum gas transit through Afghanistan was successfully completed.
No further details were released about the gas transit agreement between Russia and Afghanistan, and the head of the Russian Trade Center in Afghanistan did not specify which countries the Russian gas would be transited through Afghanistan.
Russia and the Islamic Emirate have also agreed to transit 50 million tons of Russian oil through Afghanistan in 2023, Sputnik reported. The two sides also agreed to transit two million tons of Russian flour and wheat through Afghanistan in 2024.
