The Ministry of Energy and Water says that with the completion of the remaining work of the second phase of the Kajaki Dam project in Helmand, the water storage capacity of this dam will increase to 2.02 billion cubic meters and the residents of Helmand and Kandahar provinces will benefit from electricity.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Ghulam Jilani Haqparast, Head of Information and Publications at the Ministry of Energy and Water, said that the second phase of the Kajaki Dam project will be implemented through public-private partnership in two parts.

According to the state-run Bakhtar News Agency, he added that fortunately, the first part of this project, which included 100 megawatts of electricity in a new factory, a 110/220 kV substation and the construction of a 2-meter-high dam, was completed and put into operation. With the completion of this part, the power generation capacity of the Kajaki Dam has increased from 51 megawatts to 151 megawatts of electricity.

Haqparast added: Also, the construction work of the second part of this project has progressed by about 30 percent, which in general, the construction work of both parts has about 88 percent physical progress.

He added that with the completion of the remaining works of the second part of the project, the water storage capacity will increase from one billion cubic meters to 2.02 billion cubic meters and will irrigate more than 276 thousand hectares of land, and the Ministry of Energy and Water is making more efforts in this regard.

According to Haqparast: The construction work of the second phase of the Kajaki hydroelectric dam has been carried out by the Turkish 77 Company, which has provided employment opportunities for a number of local residents and with its completion, the residents of Helmand and Kandahar provinces will benefit from electricity.

The Kajaki hydroelectric dam is one of the two main hydroelectric dams in Afghanistan, whose construction work first began in 1332 AH, and in recent years, the electricity generation capacity of this dam has reached 51 megawatts. But after the victory of the Islamic Emirate, with the inauguration of the second phase of the Kajaki hydroelectric dam by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the deputy economic minister, the capacity of this dam increased from 51 megawatts to 151 megawatts of electricity.

The Islamic Emirate prioritized infrastructure projects, including the construction and reconstruction of hydroelectric dams to increase the amount of electricity production from domestic sources, irrigation of agricultural lands, and water management, and paid serious attention to this issue. Because this will lead to economic prosperity and increase agricultural production, and it will also provide employment opportunities for a number of compatriots.
