Pazeshkian: Iran is not looking for war/ We are ready to talk with the second Trump administration
In an interview with an American network, the Iranian president stated that Iran is not afraid of war and said: We are not looking for war, but we will be ready to defend ourselves if our nuclear sites are attacked.
Afghan Voice News Agency (AVA): Iranian President Masoud Pazeshkian told NBC News in an exclusive interview in Tehran that Iran is basically ready to talk with the second Trump administration. However, he said that the United States has not fulfilled its commitments in the past and has sought to overthrow the Iranian government.

Pazeshkian said: “The problem we have is not in the conversation. It is in the commitments that arise from the conversation and negotiation that we must commit to.”

During Trump’s first term, tensions between the United States and Iran increased. In 2018, Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, sparking a wave of distrust. Trump reimposed sanctions and imposed more punitive measures. The Biden administration then held indirect talks with Iran to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, but the talks failed to reach an agreement.

“When Iran talked to the major powers about its nuclear program, we adhered to all the commitments we had to make,” Pezizkian said. “But unfortunately, it was the other side that did not fulfill its promises and commitments.”

“We suspect that, no matter how much we engage in talks and negotiations, they are trying to overthrow the government, not solve problems,” he added.

The Iranian president went on to reiterate that Iran is not seeking war, but will be ready to defend itself if its nuclear sites are attacked. “Look, naturally we will respond to any action,” Pezzekian said.

“We are not afraid of war, but we are not looking for it,” he said, adding, “I really hope that it does not happen because it will be to the detriment of all the actors, not just us.”

Pezzekian said Iran’s enemies accuse Tehran of trying to build a bomb “to create some kind of excuse.” But he added, “That is not true.”

In another part of an exclusive interview with Lester Holt, Iranian President Masoud Pezzekian referred to the claims and accusations made by the West, saying that Iran “never” had a plan to assassinate Donald Trump during last year’s US election campaign and would not have one in the future.

Asked about the allegations against Trump made by US officials, Pezzekian said: This is another one of those schemes that Israel and other countries are plotting to promote Iranophobia… Iran has never assassinated anyone and has no plans to assassinate anyone.

The NBC News reporter then asked Pazeshkian: “Are you saying that there was never an Iranian plot to kill Donald Trump?” and Masoud Pazeshkian replied: “Absolutely not.” Asked if Iran would promise that there would be no assassination attempt on Trump, Pazeshkian said: “We have never done that from the beginning and we will never do that.”

The NBC News host then referred to regional developments and made claims about Tehran’s position being weakened, but Pazeshkian categorically rejected these claims, saying: “I see no connection or connection.”

“We are more cohesive domestically than we were last year,” Pazeshkian added. “We are stronger, we have better partnerships. We have stronger security in the country.”

The interview was conducted during intensive diplomatic talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza between Israel and Hamas after months of indirect negotiations involving Egypt, Qatar, the United States and other countries. Asked whether Iran would play a role in brokering a possible agreement, Pazeshkian said, “We will do everything we can to bring peace to the region.”
