US President Joe Biden has extended the "national emergency" for a year over the widespread humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The situation has been declared due to "an extraordinary threat to national security and US foreign policy caused by the widespread humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the possibility of a deep economic collapse."

In a letter to the US Congress, Biden said the widespread humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, including the urgent needs of the people of the country for food security, livelihood support, water, health and the potential for deepening economic collapse, remains an extraordinary threat to national security and politics. The foreign is the United States.

"I will continue the national emergency declared in Executive Order 14064 for one year in view of the widespread humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and the possibility of a deep economic collapse in Afghanistan," he said.

The decree froze the assets of the Central Bank of Afghanistan in the United States.

Biden said the preservation of the assets of the Afghan central bank, which are held in the United States by financial institutions, is critical to addressing the national emergency and the welfare of the Afghan people.

After the Islamic Emirate came to power, $7 billion of the foreign reserves of the Central Bank of Afghanistan were frozen in banks in the United States.

After that, the families of a number of victims of the 9/11 attacks filed a lawsuit against the Islamic Emirate, demanding compensation for the blocked funds.

US President Joe Biden also issued a decree allocating half of the blocked funds to victims of the 9/11 attacks and setting aside the other half to help the Afghan people. The White House, however, said the final fate of the frozen money would depend on the court's decision.

A court in New York has rejected a request to pay compensation to the families of victims of the 9/11 attacks from the frozen funds of the Afghan central bank.
