Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): "If this is true, it is shameful, because poor people who have nothing are forced to pay for the mistakes of others. This is not a solution, it is not a way to solve problems." This was Pope Francis' latest response to Trump's plan to deport immigrants from the United States in an interview with the Italian program Che Tempo Che Fa on Sunday.
Pope Francis' comments came after Trump is expected to reduce legal immigration routes and carry out mass deportations of immigrants in his first days in office.
The Trump administration is planning a massive deportation drive starting Tuesday, its first full day in office, with 200 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents expected to be deployed.
Immigration experts and advocacy groups expect the Trump administration to expand its powers and pressure elected officials across the country to support the massive deportation drive through executive orders, administrative actions and funding requests from Congress, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Fox News and ABC previously reported that Trump is set to sign more than 200 executive orders on Monday, local time, just hours after taking office.
The orders would close the U.S. border to all undocumented and illegal immigrants, declare a state of emergency at the border, and designate cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
Trump also plans to reimpose the "remain in Mexico" policy, which requires asylum-seeking migrants to remain in Mexico while their immigration cases are processed.
