Funeral of two senior Hamas members in Gaza attended by resistance fighters

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas yesterday (Friday), on the first Friday after the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, buried the bodies of two of its prominent leaders, "Rohi Mushtahi" and "Sami Odeh", who had been martyred earlier.

The prayer and funeral ceremony for these two members of the Hamas political bureau was held at the Omari Mosque in Gaza. This mosque, which was targeted by Israeli bombing during the war, is very symbolic for the people of Gaza and is one of the oldest and largest mosques in the Gaza Strip.

The bodies of martyrs Mushtahi and Odeh were pulled from the rubble on Thursday, and the funeral ceremony was held with a large attendance of Palestinian people and Hamas leaders.

The Hamas movement announced yesterday that it had examined the bodies of its two senior members. Hamas invited the people of Gaza to attend the funeral of the two martyrs at the Al-Omari Mosque.

Members of the Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, were present at the ceremony, in full uniform and armed, as well as a number of leaders of Palestinian groups.

According to Israeli sources, the presence of Hamas fighters in public, which has been repeated several times since the ceasefire was implemented, is considered a major psychological operation against the occupying army, which claimed to have left nothing of the military body of Izz al-Din al-Qassam.

In early October 2024, the occupying army announced that it had martyred three Hamas leaders, Ruhi Mushtah, Sami Odeh and Sameh al-Sarraj, in an airstrike “three months ago” in the Gaza Strip. At the time, Hamas remained silent and neither confirmed nor denied the news.

In its statement, the occupying army described Mushtahi as “the head of the Hamas government in the Gaza Strip,” the right-hand man of martyr Yahya Sinwar, and one of his closest aides. It also named Odeh as the head of Hamas’s general security apparatus and Sarraj as the head of security in Hamas’s political bureau.

Sinwar and Mushtahi were among the Palestinian prisoners released in October 2011 in a prisoner exchange with Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. In this exchange, 1,027 Palestinian prisoners were released from Israeli prisons.
