Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General announced that the US owes the UN $2.8 billion.
Farhan Haq said that $1.5 billion of this amount is only related to the US debt to the UN general budget, the rest is related to the UN peacekeeping budget and courts.
Regarding the consequences of this debt, he said that according to UN regulations, if a country's debt exceeds its contribution to the UN general budget in two years, that country loses its voting rights in the UN General Assembly.
Farhan announced the budget approved by the General Assembly for 2025 as $3.72 billion.
