Western media: Golani has demanded compensation from Moscow and the handover of Assad in a meeting with the Russian delegation
Reuters news agency, citing an anonymous Syrian source, claimed that the leader of the armed groups ruling Damascus, in a meeting yesterday with the Russian delegation headed by the country's Deputy Foreign Minister, demanded compensation from Moscow and the handover of Assad.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Reuters today, referring to the Russian Foreign Ministry's report on the country's delegation's visit to Damascus and meeting with the new rulers of Syria, claimed that while Moscow is trying to maintain its two military bases in Syria, the armed groups ruling Damascus have made a request to hand over Bashar Assad.

According to the report, citing an informed Syrian source, Ahmed al-Shara (Mohammed Golani) has asked Moscow to hand over the former Syrian president, who went to Russia following an attack by armed rebels in December last year.

Syria's state news agency SANA also reported that Damascus also called on Moscow, which has been a backer of Assad, to restore trust between the two countries through tangible measures such as paying compensation and reconstruction.

A Kremlin spokesman did not comment on Damascus's demand for Assad's return and compensation, according to Reuters.

Armed groups ruling Damascus said after talks on Tuesday with a Russian delegation led by Mikhail Bogdanov that the meeting stressed that "restoring relations must include making up for past mistakes, respecting the will of the Syrian people and safeguarding their interests."

The Syrian source cited by Reuters said the Russians were not willing to accept "mistakes" and that the only agreement reached as a result of the visit was to continue talks.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also said in its account of the visit that frank discussions had taken place on a wide range of issues and that the two sides agreed to continue contacts to strengthen ties and understanding on foreign policy.
