A US court has temporarily blocked Donald Trump's order to halt foreign aid.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): A US judge has temporarily blocked Donald Trump's order to halt foreign federal aid and other financial assistance.

Accordingly, Judge John McConnell of Rhode Island agreed to the request of the Democratic attorneys general of 22 states and the District of Columbia attorney general to halt the implementation of this order and issued an order temporarily blocking the implementation of Trump's order.

According to the judge's order, the government will not be able to temporarily cancel foreign aid to other countries.

Judge McConnell, who was appointed to this position by Barack Obama, added: Congress has not given the president unlimited power to broadly and specifically stop all foreign aid sent to specific individuals and purposes.

New York Attorney General Letitia James, who helped push the executive order, strongly criticized the order, saying it would prevent the White House from stopping its abuses of federal funds.

Last week, the State Department, under the order of incoming President Donald Trump, suspended all current and new government foreign aid except for Israel and Egypt.

According to a report obtained by Reuters, all military aid was canceled after Trump ordered an immediate review of the aid and its alignment with his administration’s foreign policies.

The report, prepared by the State Department’s Office of Foreign Assistance and approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, states that military foreign aid will be given only to Israel and Egypt, and that aid to other countries will be canceled.

In addition, current foreign aid has also been suspended pending Rubio’s review.

Hours after entering the White House, Trump signed an executive order suspending foreign development assistance for 90 days to review the compliance and effectiveness of this assistance with his administration's foreign policies.

According to the report, the United States is the largest global aid donor, providing $72 billion in foreign aid in fiscal year 2023, and now, by canceling this aid, billions of dollars in life-saving aid for some countries will be at risk.

This comes a few days after a Hebrew-language media outlet claimed that from now on, US aid to Israel will be conditional on Israel being within the framework of Trump's plans.

According to Tasnim, after the issuance of this order, a number of senior Democratic representatives of the Congressional Foreign Affairs Committee, the National Security Committee, the State Department and Related Programs Committee, and the Appropriations Subcommittee wrote a letter to Rubio, urging him to cancel an order that endangers people's lives and affects America's leadership and reputation around the world.

The letter states: "Foreign assistance is not charity, but a strategic investment in our future that is vital to America's global leadership and a more resilient world. This assistance directly serves our national interests and demonstrates our credibility with our friends and volunteers who have counted on America's vital assistance."
