Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: US police have arrested Liu Lijun, a Chinese student who supports Hamas and organized a May 2024 demonstration in support of Palestine, and reports indicate that his student visa has been revoked.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order last Wednesday with the aim of combating what has been called anti-Semitism (!).
In this order, foreign students who support Hamas or pro-Palestine activists who hold demonstrations at US universities are threatened with visa revocation.
Following this order, Washington revoked the visa of this Chinese student who was studying at the University of California, Los Angeles and was arrested in May 2024 for organizing a pro-Palestine demonstration.
According to media reports, Liu will likely be returned to China. This is the first instance of a visa cancellation under the new US government policy.
According to Trump’s executive order, the US Department of Education, the Department of the Interior and Homeland Security are required to develop and submit recommendations within two months to “monitor and report on the activities of foreign students and employees.” All ministers and directors of federal agencies are required to review all available criminal and civil powers and actions to combat anti-Semitism and report to the White House within 60 days.
