One of the perpetrators of the Quran burning in Sweden was found guilty
A court in Sweden on Monday found one of the perpetrators of the Quran burning in the country guilty of committing hate crimes.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): A court in Sweden has ruled against a person who played a role in anti-Islamic campaigns.

According to Reuters, the court accused him of committing a hate crime for his statements during the Quran burning in 2023, which angered people in Sweden and other Muslim countries.

Some Swedish media outlets have named him as Selvan Najm, who burned the Quran with Selvan Momika.

The Swedish Television (SVT) website announced that he was convicted of incitement against an ethnic group in connection with four attempts to burn the Quran in the city of Stockholm.

The court stated that even if the defendant's intention was to criticize Islam, his actions and conduct clearly went beyond criticism and debate. Najm was sentenced to a suspended sentence and a fine.

He denied the charges, claiming that his actions constituted criticism of religion, which is protected under freedom of expression.

The judge in the case explained that expressing one's opinion about a religion does not allow one to do anything or say anything without considering the risk of offending the group to which one believes.
