US Secretary of State: We must apply maximum pressure on Iran
In response to a question from a Fox News reporter, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that Donald Trump's previous policy of applying the "maximum pressure" policy against Iran could prevent the country's nuclear activities.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Marco Rubio claimed in response to a question that Donald Trump's previous policy of applying the "maximum pressure" policy against Iran could prevent Iran's nuclear activities.

A Fox News reporter asked Rubio in a question, "Do you expect the maximum pressure campaign against Iran to return?" In response to this question, Secretary of State Trump claimed, "I think we should apply more pressure on Iran until they stop the activities that they are doing. What are those activities? They are ultimately trying to obtain a nuclear weapon."

In his first term as president, Donald Trump tore up the deal despite Iran’s adherence to the JCPOA and pursued a policy of maximum pressure on Iran, which not only failed to yield results but also led to Iran increasing its nuclear activities even more.

Rubio had previously stressed that the United States was seeking a trigger mechanism to reinstate arms sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Earlier, on January 3, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that if a new agreement could be reached, Iranian officials were ready to immediately begin negotiations with Western countries on the country’s nuclear doctrine. However, the Iranian Foreign Minister added that Iran would wait for the new US administration to clarify its policy in this regard and only then would negotiations be held.
