Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Afghanistan's Ministry of Mines and Petroleum is trying to increase cement production in a number of provinces, including Parwan, Jawzjan, Kandahar, Logar and Herat, Humayun Afghan, spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, told AVA.
Humayun Afghan also said that since the Islamic Emirate came to power, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has invested about $770 million in five major cement projects in different provinces of the country.
According to a spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, large factories with a capacity of producing hundreds of tons of cement per day have been contracted with domestic and foreign companies, some of which are being completed.
Afghan explained that among the five large factories, the Jabal al-Siraj cement project was contracted with a Qatari company that also has Afghan partners worth $220 million, and similarly, the Kandahar and Herat cement projects were also contracted with domestic companies.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum added that the Jawzjan cement project, which is one of the largest projects, has been signed with 77 Turkish Company and the Logar Cement Factory with Chennai Company, which also has Afghan partners.
According to Afghan, the cement projects are currently in the exploration phase, including the construction of the Kandahar cement project, which is being completed and will be activated soon.
Afghan also added: After the completion of the exploration phase of these projects, large factories will start producing. With the activation of these five factories in the country, Afghanistan will be completely self-sufficient in terms of cement and will have the capacity to export.
Jabal al-Siraj cement factory creates jobs for thousands of people
Earlier, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said in a statement that the $200 million investment in the Jabal al-Siraj cement project is expected to create jobs for thousands of people and produce about 6,000 tons of cement per day.
The committee is scheduled to begin its work on the process of evaluating the proposals and documents of the bidding companies, the ministry said in a statement.
It is worth mentioning that the Ghori Cement Factory in Baghlan province, which is currently operating, is also one of the largest factories in the country, producing hundreds of tons of cement in 24 hours.
Sarbaz Banozi, deputy technical director of the Ghori Cement Factory, told the media that the factory's total production last year was 180,000 tons and this year it plans to reach 200,000 tons.
The technical deputy of the plant said in another part of his speech that the National Development Company intends to build another new cement production plant alongside the production plant, which will have a capacity of 4,000 tons of cement in 24 hours.
