Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Indian security forces killed 31 of them in the biggest armed clash of the New Year with Maoist rebels in the forests of Chhattisgarh state in central India.
According to Reuters, two Indian officers were killed and two others were injured in the clashes. According to Indian police, the bodies of 31 people, along with their weapons, were recovered after the shooting.
Earlier, last month, Indian police announced that eight police officers and a driver were killed in a bomb blast by Maoist rebels.
More than 10,000 people have lost their lives in the group's decades-long conflict.
According to official Indian statistics, as government forces intensified pressure on the group, more than 287 rebels were killed in 2024, 1,000 people were arrested on charges of association with the group, and 837 surrendered.
The group, also known as the Naxals, is a communist group that began its military activities in 1967, inspired by the ideas of Mao Tse-tung, the Chinese communist leader.
