Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Associated Press reported that in a candidate debate before the German election, German Chancellor Olaf Schulz described US President Donald Trump's proposal that the United States could take ownership of the Gaza Strip, relocate its population and rebuild Gaza as a "scandal."
According to the report, Schulz's main rival in the upcoming German elections, Friedrich Mertz, also expressed concern about Trump's statements, saying that "a lot of these words are mostly rhetorical."
In response to a question about Trump's proposal to turn Gaza into a "Middle East Riviera," Schulz said: "A scandal." Moreover, it is literally terrible.
Referring to the positions of Egypt and Jordan on this issue, he added: “The displacement of populations is unacceptable and contrary to international law.”
Meretz, who is currently leading in the polls, also said: “I confirm this assessment. This is one of a series of proposals that have been put forward by the US administration and are certainly a cause for concern. We have to wait and see which of these are serious and how they will be implemented—much of this is probably just rhetoric.”
Meretz called the new US president “predictably, unpredictable,” adding: “There are significant concerns on this side of the Atlantic about his future actions; for this reason, our unity in Europe is more important than ever.”
He stressed that if elected, he would do a lot to preserve the unity of the European Union.
Schulz also stressed the importance of the existence of the European Union and even stated that he and other European countries are developing proposals to increase NATO’s presence in Greenland.
Regarding Europe's reaction to the possibility of the US imposing trade tariffs, Schulz also said: "We are ready... We can react within an hour as the European Union."
According to media reports, US President Donald Trump called for the complete evacuation of the Gaza Strip and the relocation of its residents to neighboring Arab countries and other regions, and for the US to take control of the Gaza Strip.
He cited the lack of living conditions in the Gaza Strip due to the widespread destruction caused by the Israeli army's attacks as an excuse and ordered the Arab countries neighboring the occupied territories, including Egypt and Jordan, to welcome and resettle the people of Gaza; a request that was met with protests from both countries and the international community.
