Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Ursula von der Leyen stated in a statement today (Tuesday) that the European Union will take retaliatory measures in response to the US decision to impose a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports.

 

She warned, “I deeply regret Washington’s decision to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminum exports. Unnecessary tariffs on the European Union will not go unanswered and will lead to strong and proportionate retaliatory measures.”

 

The US president has significantly increased US tariffs on steel and aluminium imports to 25% “without exceptions or exemptions”, a move that could trigger a multilateral trade war.

 

German Chancellor Olaf Schulz also reacted to Trump’s move, saying “Europe must remain united and more firmly united than ever in the years to come.”
