Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: According to IRAF, citing reliable sources, Mohammad Reza Bahrami, former Iranian ambassador to Afghanistan, has been appointed as the director general for South Asia at the ministry by an order from the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs. IRNA News Agency has also confirmed this report.
According to this report, Bahrami was Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan in 2013. This was his second experience in this position.
Bahrami was previously the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kabul during the presidency of Sayyed Mohammad Khatami and during the first two years of the presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
In addition, Mr. Bahrami served as the Iranian Consul General in Jalalabad and also as the Iranian Consul General in Kandahar during the previous government of the Islamic Emirate.
He also served in the Afghan section of the Iranian Ministry of Interior.
This appointment comes at a time when Mr. Bahrami was present alongside Mr. Araqchi during the recent visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Kabul.
Previously, Dr. Seyed Rasoul Mousavi served as the Director General of South Asia at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for many years, until Dr. Araqchi retired in the new government of this country and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Hashem Ashjazadeh was appointed as the Acting Director General of South Asia at the Ministry.
Due to his extensive work experience in the field of Afghanistan, Mr. Mohammad Reza Bahrami has a complete understanding of the country's issues and has been present in Iranian and international media as an expert on Afghan issues over the past years.
This is while, after the end of Mr. Hassan Kazemi Qomi's mission as the Iranian President's special representative for Afghan affairs, and the elimination of this representation, according to the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to AVA, the acting head of the country's embassy in Kabul and the director general of the ministry's South Asia department will continue to manage Iran-related affairs in Afghan affairs, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
