Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: After yesterday's phone call between the US and Russian presidents about Ukraine, which Trump called constructive and announced an agreement to immediately begin negotiations with the aim of ending the war in Ukraine, an approach that has provoked a reaction from Washington's European allies.
In response to this development and the positions of Washington officials, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that he regretted that the Trump administration had made concessions to Russia before the talks began. He added, "Ukraine's possible membership in NATO and the transfer of territory to Russia should not be taken off the table (negotiations) before the talks begin (considered concessions given)."
European countries including Britain, France and Germany stressed on Wednesday that they must be part of future talks on the fate of Ukraine, saying that “only a fair agreement with security guarantees can guarantee lasting peace.”
A joint statement by the seven countries and the European Council said that “our common goal must be to put Ukraine in a position of strength and that Ukraine and Europe must be part of any negotiations.”
