Kremlin: We will not be deceived by the West
The Kremlin spokesman emphasized that Russia, having learned from past experiences, will no longer fall into the trap of the West's deceptive promises and that now is the time for pragmatism.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to Russian media, Dmitry Peskov added in an interview with Pavel Zarubin, a correspondent for Russian national television: The West's deception in connection with the Minsk agreements became a lesson for Russia that will help Moscow better defend its interests in the future.

Stressing that Moscow's distrust of Ukraine will not disappear, he noted: Russia will not forget how the West deceived it and will take it into account in formulating its position.

Russia and the US will talk about peace, not war
The Kremlin spokesman also stated that the telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump means that Moscow and Washington will now solve problems through dialogue and will talk "about peace, not war."

He added: "This is a strong signal that we will now try to solve problems through dialogue and now we will talk about peace, not war."

Peskov said: "Russia did not have any dialogue with the previous US administration, but Trump's position on resolving problems through dialogue should, in theory, be attractive to any sane person or any government."

The Russian official recalled: "War, without dialogue" was the official position of the previous US administration.

In another part of his speech, the Kremlin spokesman said: "The meeting of the leaders of Russia and the US is currently of particular importance and requires special preparations even outside the framework of Moscow-Washington relations."

He clarified: If we were in a situation of regular dialogue and normal intergovernmental relations, this meeting would probably require less preparation.

Peskov continued: In any case, the meeting of the presidents of the two countries, especially the heads of state of Russia and the United States, requires special efforts in the field of preparation, development of an agenda, preliminary discussions and exchange of views at various working levels.

Regarding Putin’s invitation to his American counterpart to visit Moscow, he also stated: Trump can visit Russia at any time when an agreement is reached on the visit.

In response to another question, the Kremlin spokesman said: US sanctions against the Russian president may not have a significant impact on the negotiations, because Washington takes such measures quickly and, if it wishes, quickly lifts them, or these sanctions can remain in force for several decades. Sanctions are such a category.

Peskov recalled the Jackson-Vanik amendment, which has been in place since the 1970s and restricted US trade with the Soviet Union and, subsequently, all independent republics of the Soviet Union.

He also said: "We all remember the new package of sanctions that was adopted the day after the sanctions were lifted. The lifted law was immediately replaced by a full-fledged package of sanctions, which in its composition had the same effect."

The Jackson-Vanik amendment was adopted in the United States in 1974 and linked the country's trade and economic relations with the former Soviet Union to the issue of Jewish emigration from the Soviet Union. Currently, this amendment applies to many republics of the former Soviet Union, for example, in the countries of Central Asia.
