Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: As the process of forced deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan continues, a number of refugees in this country are complaining about the high cost of visa renewal and its time limit.
They say that now Pakistani visas are only extended monthly, and this has created many economic problems for the refugees.
According to Tolo News, Hasina Sarwari, an Afghan refugee in Pakistan, says: “We have to renew our visas every month, and this monthly extension has created great economic problems for the refugees. A family cannot afford to extend the visas of five people.”
Mohammad Reza Sazeh, another Afghan refugee in Pakistan, also said: “Currently, all visas have been converted to one-month visas and we cannot extend our visas for more than one month. We hope that this system will change and return to the previous state, because the high cost of visa extension is beyond the means of any Afghan refugee in Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, a number of refugee rights activists have called for serious attention to the problems of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
Mohammad Khan Mohammadzai, a refugee rights activist, said: “The current Afghan government should take steps with the Pakistani government through diplomatic channels to issue long-term visas based on the laws of the two countries.”
Ehsan Khan Ahmadzai, a refugee rights activist, added: “In the past, visas were extended for six months or three months, but now they are extended only for one month and that too at a cost of one hundred dollars or twenty thousand kaldars. A solution must be found for this problem.”
This is despite the fact that the authorities of the Islamic Emirate and various institutions have repeatedly called for creating more facilities for Afghan refugees. The International Organization for Migration and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees have also repeatedly called on Pakistan to treat Afghan refugees appropriately, taking into account international law.
It is worth noting that Pakistan has recently increased the pressure on Afghan refugees in this country.
