Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to the Russian news agency "Rianovosti", Alexander Khinshtein, the acting governor of the region, commented on the liberation of Sudzha on Thursday: "The clearing of the territory of the Kursk region is progressing rapidly and we are getting closer to victory."
In addition to Sudzha, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Russian forces have also taken control of the settlements of "Malovoy" and "Podol" in the Kursk region.
The ministry's daily report on progress in repelling Ukrainian attacks in Kursk Oblast said: "Units of the Russian Group of Forces "Sor" liberated the cities of Sudzha, Melovoi and Podol during offensive operations."
The Russian Defense Ministry also reported that in the past 24 hours, in addition to destroying Ukrainian military equipment, the Kiev army had lost more than 340 soldiers in Kursk.
Sudzha was the largest residential area that Ukrainian forces had managed to capture after the offensive on Kursk in August 2024.
According to RIA Novosti, Ukraine was using the city of Sudzha as a main logistics center to supply its military units in nearby villages and towns.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian operation to expel Ukrainian forces from the Kursk Oblast in western Russia had entered its final stage.
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Kursk region in western Russia on Wednesday for the first time since Ukrainian forces seized parts of the peninsula.
As the United States presses for an end to the war in Ukraine, Kiev hopes to use the territory it has seized as a bargaining chip, but large areas of Kursk have recently been liberated by the Russian military.
The Kremlin also said on Wednesday it would review the details of Washington's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine before responding.
