Iranian Consul General in Herat Emphasizes Strengthening Good Relations with the Government and Nation of Afghanistan
Ali Reza Marhamati, Iranian Consul General in Herat, emphasized the expansion and strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries of Iran and Afghanistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Iranian Consul General in Herat stated in an interview with reporters that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been with the people of Afghanistan since its establishment, based on the historic decree of Imam Khomeini (RA), and has not left this friendly and brotherly nation alone even in the most difficult days.

Referring to the great economic and trade capacities of Afghanistan, Marhamati said: This country is a suitable platform for investment and implementation of infrastructure projects.

He emphasized that the current efforts for economic dynamism, creating job opportunities and implementing major projects will promise better days for the people of Afghanistan.

The diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Herat stated that the volume of Afghanistan’s economic exchanges with the world exceeds $11 billion and noted that nearly $4 billion of this amount is related to exchanges with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He considered this statistic to be an indication of the importance of economic relations between the two countries and added that there is a potential for increasing these cooperations, especially in the export of Afghan manufactured goods.

The Iranian Consul General in Herat continued his speech by referring to the Khaf-Herat railway project and announced the acceleration of infrastructure work and track laying for this project.

He emphasized that this major economic project will soon reach the exploitation stage and will have a significant impact on the expansion of trade exchanges.

Marahmati also spoke about another project in which the Khaf-Herat railway will be connected to Turkmenistan, and considered this trilateral connection an important step in the development of regional corridors. He appreciated the support and cooperation of the local administration of Herat province in advancing these projects.

In another part of his remarks, Marhamati announced the plan to transport passengers by rail between Iran and Afghanistan and said that plans have been made to implement this plan soon.

Finally, he mentioned another important project: the construction of the Farah-Mahirud road, which is financed with a budget of more than 17 million euros from the Islamic Republic of Iran’s grant aid. According to him, this project is also designed to expand economic relations and facilitate the transit of goods between the two countries.

These words of the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Herat express the country’s serious determination to develop multidimensional relations with Afghanistan, especially in the economic, transit and investment fields; relations that, according to experts, can play a key role in strengthening regional stability and the progress of Afghanistan.
