Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The US Treasury Department announced new sanctions on Wednesday regarding parties supporting Iran's nuclear program.
A statement issued by the US Treasury Department states: Today, the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on 5 entities and 1 individual based in Iran for supporting key entities that manage and monitor Iran's nuclear program, including the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and the Iranian Centrifuge Technology Company (TESA), affiliated with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
The US Treasury Department added in its statement: Today's action, which targets entities that provide or produce critical technologies for the Iranian Centrifuge Technology Company and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, is in line with the US policy of denying Iran nuclear weapons!
According to the US Treasury Department statement, Scott Basnet, the country's Treasury Secretary, claimed: Iran's reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons continues to pose a serious threat to the United States and a threat to regional stability and global security! The US Treasury will continue to use its tools to disrupt any Iranian efforts to advance its nuclear program and its broader destabilizing program!
According to Mehr, the US Treasury Secretary's claim against Iran comes at a time when the International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly acknowledged that Iran's nuclear program is not military in nature.
It is worth noting that, according to the agreement, nuclear talks between Iran and the US are scheduled to be held in Oman on Saturday.
