Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: China's customs tariffs on American goods had previously reached 84 percent in response to the first stage of tariff increases on American goods, but the US President increased these tariffs for the second time in response to China's countermeasures. Now, in response again, China has increased the customs tariff on imported American goods to 125 percent. The new rate is scheduled to be implemented tomorrow, Saturday, March 23.
According to Mehr, China's Ministry of Commerce has announced that a 90-day pause in US tariffs on some of its partners will not change the fact that Washington is trying to gain unilateral gains through blackmail.
According to media reports and analysts, the tariff hike, initiated by US President Donald Trump, has increased the risk of a trade war between the world's two economic powers more than ever.
Meanwhile, China's official news agency reported that President Xi Jinping stressed in a meeting with the Spanish Prime Minister that there are no winners in a tariff war.
The Chinese president also said: China and Europe must maintain their partnership and be committed to "open cooperation". The two sides must stand up to unilateral bullying (by the US) to protect their own interests and international laws. It is the responsibility of China and the EU to safeguard international justice and fairness.
Referring to Trump's unilateral action to increase tariffs against many countries, Xi Jinping stated: "Confronting the world means isolating ourselves."
The Spanish Prime Minister also said: "We want to develop trade relations with China on the basis of equality and balance. We are trying to open the Chinese market to Spanish products and goods."
He noted: "The development of relations with China will be reflected in the development of Beijing's relations with the European Union."
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also announced in its latest response to the increase in tariffs by US President Donald Trump: "There are no winners in a tariff war or a trade war."
The ministry added: "China does not want confrontation, but it is not afraid of it. Any dialogue with Washington must be based on equality, respect and reciprocity."
The statement continued: "If Washington insists on a tariff war, we will fight to the end."
The Chinese Foreign Ministry noted: "In the face of US hegemony and tyranny, compromise or concessions are not the answer."
