Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said in an interview with the China Media Group (CMG) in Beijing on Friday that he hopes the Iran-US nuclear talks in Oman will help reduce differences and reach an agreement to resolve the political impasse.
Grossi said that "we need an agreement and we need it very soon," referring to the indirect talks scheduled to be held in Oman today between Iran and the United States, adding, "We wish the best there. There has been an exchange of messages between President Donald Trump and the Iranian government. We know that there are still many differences, but one thing that can be hopeful is that the need for an agreement has been accepted, and then the content, scope, and conditions of the agreement are issues that need to be negotiated.”
This afternoon, indirect talks between Iran and the United States are scheduled to be held under the chairmanship of Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and Steve Whittaker, the US Special Representative for West Asia, through the Foreign Minister of Oman.
Araqchi, who arrived in Muscat today at the head of a team, met with his Omani counterpart Badr Al-Busaidi after arriving in Oman and provided the Islamic Republic of Iran’s axes and positions to be conveyed to the US to the Omani Foreign Minister.
Araqchi also said in the interview that Iran has been present seriously and that its intention is to reach a fair and honorable agreement from an equal position, adding that “the negotiations are indirect and, in our opinion, only on the nuclear issue.”
