Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to media reports, the talks will be held in two separate rooms and without the presence of journalists.
Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, announced that in this round of talks, representatives of Iran and the United States will be seated in separate rooms and will convey their positions to each other through the Omani Foreign Minister.
According to Fars, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi has provided his Omani counterpart with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s axes and positions to be conveyed to the American side. Araqchi said in a conversation about the indirect talks in Muscat: “We participated with the necessary seriousness and our intention is to reach a fair and honorable agreement from an equal position. The talks are indirect and, in our opinion, only on the nuclear issue.”
He added: “Many basic and fundamental issues will be clarified in this meeting, including if there is sufficient will on both sides, we will decide on the timetable. But it is still too early to talk about this.”
According to a report by the Islamic Republic of Iran media, Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi, deputy ministers for political, legal and international affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, as well as Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for the country’s diplomatic service, are accompanying Mr. Araqchi on this trip.
Araghchi had previously described the meeting as “both an opportunity and a test.” He wrote in an article in the Washington Post: “Pursuing indirect talks is neither a tactic nor a reflection of an ideological tendency, but a strategic choice made based on experience. We face a great wall of mistrust and have serious doubts about the sincerity of intentions.”
