Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-Herat: The Herat governor’s press office in a press release described the arrival of this food shipment to Herat as a sign of the boom in transportation via the Herat-Khaf railway, as one of the country’s economic arteries.
The press release states: “The Khaf-Herat railway has currently become one of the vital trade arteries in Afghanistan; a route through which hundreds of tons of various food and non-food goods and materials are transported to Herat province daily.”
The Herat local administration is reporting an increase in the transportation of goods via the railway in the west of the country, while officials from the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment have also announced that at least 10,000 tons of goods have entered the country via the Khaf-Herat railway in the last three months.
Younus Ghazizada, head of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, says; “During the last three months, the Herat-Khaf railway has been more active than before and about 10,000 tons of goods have entered the country.”
According to him, the speed and price of transporting goods via the railway has decreased significantly compared to land routes, and the Herat-Khaf railway will play a key role in the growth of Afghan trade.
He also added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has made valuable efforts in this sector and this railway has been able to connect Afghanistan to global markets in a short and simple way.
On the other hand, Mustafa Rezaei, the director of the country's railway consortium, also stated that currently one commercial shipment enters Herat daily via the Khaf-Herat railway line, and if some problems that Iran has promised to solve are resolved, this figure will increase significantly.
This is while on Thursday (21 April), a large political-economic delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, accompanied by the country's deputy foreign minister, traveled to Herat province and visited various parts of the province, including the Khaf-Herat railway line. The delegation also emphasized the development of economic cooperation between the two countries in a meeting with the governor of Herat.
