Iranian Economic Delegation Visits Farah-Mahirud Road Construction Project: Completion of the Road in 1404 and Increase in Trade and Transit Capacities
During the visit of the Economic Delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the road construction operations on the Farah-Mahirud axis, it was announced that this project is being implemented with the aim of facilitating border communications and increasing the capacity of the East-West corridor in the region.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Bekdali, the Charge d'Affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Embassy in Afghanistan, stated during this visit that the completion of this project will be carried out in 1404 and will have significant impacts on trade and transit relations between Afghanistan and Iran.

He added: "With the completion of this route, Afghanistan's communication with Iran and other countries in the region, especially the Middle East countries, will be facilitated, and in particular, the movement of traders and the transportation of goods will increase significantly." This project, as a vital route to facilitate trade and transit of goods in the future, is a priority for the infrastructural developments of the two countries.

Meanwhile, local and Iranian officials also spoke about the importance of this project for economic development and improving regional transportation, emphasizing that with the completion of this project, the trade and economic capacities of the two countries will be greatly strengthened.

It is worth noting that this project is of particular importance for the Farah province of Afghanistan because the Mahirud route is known as one of the most important border crossings in relation to Iran and other countries, and its completion could create a major transformation in trade and economic exchanges between the two countries.

Also, according to media reports, in order to strengthen economic relations and facilitate border exchanges between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan, the project to develop and improve the connection road between the Farah province of Afghanistan and the Sarbisheh county in the South Khorasan province of Iran is being implemented seriously.

Sayed Mohammad Reza Hashemi, the governor of South Khorasan, stated that providing funding for the Mahirud-Sarbisheh-Farah road, which had been delayed for years, is now a priority project of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

Also, the Director General of Roads and Urban Development of South Khorasan announced that the construction of the 53-kilometer-long Abu Nasr Farah port to the center of Farah province has progressed by 83 percent so far and will be completed in the next eight months.

Importance of the project for relations between the two countries
The completion of this project will not only help facilitate transportation and border trade, but can also lead to economic development and increased cultural interactions between the two countries.

The Mahirud connection road, as one of the most important border crossings between Iran and Afghanistan, plays a vital role in facilitating trade and economic exchanges between the two countries. This route, which refers to the longest common border between the two countries, is of great importance especially for the eastern provinces of Iran and western Afghanistan.

Development projects on this border, including improving road infrastructure and completing the Farah-Mahirud connection road, will not only facilitate the transit route of goods but also provide faster access to Iranian ports, such as Chabahar and Bandar Abbas. This will reduce transportation costs and transit time for goods.

The increase in the volume of exports between the two countries through this border, which has grown significantly in recent years, is a testament to the high capacity of this border crossing. With the completion of infrastructure projects and increased trade interactions between the two countries, the Mahirud connection will become an important hub for trade, energy, and regional cooperation.

Ultimately, this project will not only benefit both countries, but can also serve as a key point for connecting Central Asia to southern Iran and a gateway for accessing global markets.
