Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-Kabul: The press office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock sent a press release to AVA today (Sunday, April 13) that Maulvi Ataullah Omari, the acting minister of the ministry, who has traveled to Uzbekistan at the official invitation of that country, met and discussed with officials of the Ministry of Energy and Water of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the development of irrigation systems, strengthening the Amu Darya River, effective use of water resources, the effects of climate change on the water resources of this basin, and other related issues.
According to the press release, the parties agreed that both countries should expand joint cooperation to reform and modernize irrigation systems in order to save water consumption.
Officials of the Ministry of Energy and Water of Uzbekistan emphasized the continuation of exchanges between technical officials of the two countries and the strengthening of cooperation in the water, agriculture, livestock and other fields.
The Acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, expressing gratitude for the official invitation of Uzbekistan, reminded of the progress made in Afghanistan in the water, agriculture and development sectors and invited the other side to travel to Afghanistan to visit the existing capacities.
He emphasized that Afghanistan is now a secure and independent country.
Also, Mawlawi Omari called on Uzbekistan to cooperate in training and improving the capacity of employees of the Ministry of Agriculture, farmers and livestock keepers of Afghanistan, because Uzbekistan has valuable experience in strengthening and utilizing water resources.
Officials of the Ministry of Energy and Water of Uzbekistan also pledged that investors from that country are ready to cooperate in modernizing Afghanistan's irrigation systems, especially economical systems such as drip and sprinkler irrigation.
They also emphasized that if Afghan investors are interested in changing traditional irrigation systems to modern methods, they are ready to provide them with the necessary support and cooperation.
