Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: On the eve of the EU Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrow expressed his concern about Europe’s interests in these talks, referring to the Iran-US nuclear talks.
He said: “We will be vigilant, together with our British and German friends and partners, to ensure that any possible talks (between the US and Iran) are consistent with our security interests regarding Iran’s nuclear program.”
These statements come as the first round of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran was held in Oman on Saturday with the participation of officials from both countries. The talks, which are being held at a high level for the first time since the US unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, have raised hopes of reviving the nuclear deal.
Meanwhile, the Times of Israel reported that Whittaker had briefed Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer on the Oman talks. CNN also reported, citing a source familiar with the matter, that US-Iranian talks are set to continue next week and will likely be held in a European country.
According to the Axios news website, the next round of indirect talks between Iran and the US is likely to be held in the Italian capital next Saturday.
Given these developments, France’s concerns about Europe’s interests in the US-Iran nuclear talks indicate that European countries intend to play an active role in these talks and ensure that their outcomes align with their interests.
