Uzbekistan announces readiness for agricultural cooperation with Afghanistan/Tashkent calls for import of country’s agricultural products
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock says that the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, in a meeting with the acting minister of the ministry in Tashkent, said that his country is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in various agricultural fields. He added that Uzbekistan needs many agricultural items and Afghanistan can play an effective role in this sector by producing and exporting products such as cotton, rice, fruits and vegetables.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said today (Monday, 14th of April) in a statement to AVA that Maulvi Ataullah Omari, acting minister of the ministry, met and talked with Ibrahim Abdulrahman Auf, the country’s Minister of Agriculture and Water, in Tashkent.
 
In this meeting, which was held with the presence of a delegation from the Islamic Emirate and officials from various sectors of Uzbekistan, the two sides discussed and exchanged views in detail on the development of bilateral cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, irrigation and livestock.
 
Maulvi Attaullah Omari explained to the Uzbek side the extensive investment opportunities in the agriculture, livestock and other sectors and assured that Afghanistan would provide the necessary facilities for investors.
 
While appreciating Uzbekistan’s previous cooperation, he called for sharing experiences and technology between the two countries and emphasized that Afghanistan has a serious need to increase agricultural production in the current situation.
 
He added: “We must work together to produce agricultural products so that in addition to meeting domestic needs, we can also contribute to reducing global poverty.”
 
On the other hand, the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, while welcoming the Afghan delegation, emphasized the importance of relations between the two neighboring Muslim countries and said that his country is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in various agricultural fields.
 
He added that Uzbekistan needs many agricultural items and Afghanistan can play an effective role in this sector by producing products such as cotton, rice, fruits and vegetables.
 
He also stated that Uzbekistan is ready to provide improved seeds to Afghanistan for farmers to cultivate and after harvesting, the country is ready to buy them again.
 
During the meeting, the two countries pledged to cooperate closely in the areas related to plant quarantine and animal health at ports to provide the necessary facilities for perishable products to reach their destinations.
 
It is worth noting that a delegation from Afghanistan headed by the Acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock has traveled to Uzbekistan.
