Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The second round of indirect talks between Iran and the US will be held on April 19 in Muscat and mediated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi.
The first round of these talks was held on April 12 in Muscat, the capital of Oman, and mediated by the Omani Foreign Minister.
Some media outlets had previously reported that these talks would be held in Italy, and the Italian Foreign Minister had also confirmed that these talks would be held in Rome. On the other hand, Iraqi media outlets had stated that Araqchi told Fuad Hussein in a telephone conversation that the second round of talks would be held in Rome.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said on Saturday, March 13, after the first round of talks, which were chaired by him and Trump's special representative for the Middle East, Steve Whittaker, that the second round of these talks will probably be held somewhere else, and of course hosted by Oman.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said on Monday at a weekly briefing with reporters about the location of the next round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States: "In a short conversation they had after the talks, the Foreign Minister announced that the next round of talks will probably be somewhere other than Oman. The issue of the location of the talks is not really an important issue. The important issue is that the form and framework of interaction between Iran and the United States will remain unchanged, indirect negotiations with the mediation of Oman. Regarding the location, it is natural that the necessary arrangements will be thought about by the intermediary party, which is Oman. We thank them for their kind hosting. We are confident that they will make a proper decision on how to conduct these talks in the next round."
He said: "We are in contact with the Omani side." In principle, we will make a decision and announce the location of the negotiations after we officially receive the views of the Omani side.
