Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: In a meeting with Vietnamese officials, Xi stressed the two countries’ cooperation to maintain “the stability of the global free trade system and supply chains,” adding that “China’s vast market is always open to Vietnam.” He also said that “China and Vietnam should strengthen their strategic focus and counter unilateral bullying.”
The trip comes as US President Donald Trump has suspended “reciprocal” tariffs against other countries for 90 days, a decision that observers say has shifted the focus of the trade war squarely on China.
Amidst these tensions, Southeast Asian countries are worried about being caught in the middle of this conflict. For this reason, Xi is trying to use this opportunity to present China as a defender of global trade and a reliable partner.
Despite the warm welcome for Xi, analysts warn that these countries should act cautiously, as showing any inclination towards China could anger Trump and jeopardize the process of their trade negotiations with the United States.
In response to Xi’s meeting with the Vietnamese president, Trump described it as an attempt to hurt the United States and said that the European Union was formed for exactly this purpose.
According to Fars, one of the main concerns of the United States is that countries such as Vietnam and Mexico no longer act as intermediaries for the export of Chinese products. Daniel Keshi, a policy advisor at the American Compass think tank, noted that the United States will focus on ensuring that goods imported from Vietnam are truly made in this country.
According to Kishi, the US government will likely pressure other countries to match their tariffs on China with the rates the US is imposing on China. This will include using various tools to prevent China from controlling the supply chain in critical sectors.
