Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to Al Jazeera, a Hamas official announced that the proposal presented by Egypt for a ceasefire in Gaza includes a temporary 45-day ceasefire in exchange for the entry of food and shelter into Gaza and the release of half of the Israeli prisoners in the first week of the agreement.
The Hamas official added that the movement's negotiating team was surprised by the Egyptian proposal because of its clear emphasis on the disarmament of the resistance. According to him, Egypt has told Hamas that there will be no agreement to end the war without negotiating the disarmament of the resistance.
This senior Hamas member clarified that Hamas has told Egypt that the cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of the occupying forces from the Gaza Strip will be the basis of any agreement, and that the disarmament of the resistance is not acceptable in any way.
He stressed that the weapons of resistance will not be negotiated in whole or in part, because these weapons are a fundamental right of the Palestinian people.
The Hamas official concluded by saying that the movement categorically rejects discussing the issue of weapons of resistance and that this issue is not negotiable.
