The National Immigration Organization’s draft statute approved by the National Security Commission of the Iranian Parliament
The spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran announced that the draft statute of the National Immigration Organization and Organization of Foreign Nationals has been approved by this commission.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-Tehran: Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the National Security Commission of the Iranian Parliament, said on the sidelines of the session on Tuesday, April 15: “In this session, the bill on the accession of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the First and Second Additional Protocols to the 1977 Geneva Conventions was reviewed and referred to the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament for further review.”

He added: “Following the session, the draft statute of the National Immigration Organization and Organization of Foreign Nationals was discussed and approved by the members of the commission.”

Rezaei noted that the details of this plan will be reviewed in the next sessions of the commission.

The National Immigration Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran is a fledgling institution that was established with the aim of integrated management of immigration affairs, organization of foreign nationals, and policymaking in the field of immigration.

Before the formation of this organization, responsibilities related to immigration and foreign nationals were divided among various institutions such as the Ministry of Interior, the Police Force, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which created challenges in decision-making and policy implementation.

The need to create a coherent and accountable structure for immigration management, especially in the face of the presence of several million Afghan nationals and other immigrants in Iran, prompted the government of this country to draft a bill to establish the National Immigration Organization.

This bill was first proposed in the 12th government, but its review and approval continued until the 13th and 14th governments. In recent years, with the intensification of regional developments and new waves of immigration, this organization has been recognized as a strategic need for Iran.

Currently, the approval of the general outlines of the draft statute of this organization by the National Security Commission of the Majlis is considered an important step towards finalizing the establishment and official start of this institution.

It is expected that with the full formation of the National Immigration Organization, intelligent, fair, and coherent management of immigrants and refugees will be implemented in Iran.
