Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Jaishankar said in a speech at the Charatur University of Science and Technology in Gujarat, India, referring to Pakistan's role in supporting terrorist groups. They were with the Islamic Emirate at the same time and with the other side. But when the US left Afghanistan, this double game could no longer continue.”
The Indian foreign minister called Pakistan the "architect of the terrorism industry in the region" and added: "Islamabad tried to profit by maintaining several coalitions at the same time, but this policy created internal insecurity in Pakistan itself." He said the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai were a turning point in India-Pakistan relations that led to deep distrust in Indian society.
Comparing the political and economic paths of India and Pakistan in recent years, Jaishankar said India had changed, but Pakistan continued its unpleasant habits of the past. He also pointed to the change in India's foreign policy approach after the Modi government came to power in 2014, stressing that India had sent a clear message to Pakistan: "If a terrorist act is carried out, there will be consequences."
The Indian foreign minister stressed that India has gained a better position on the world stage in recent years, while Pakistan continues to play its "old scenarios". He concluded: “India has moved forward. We should not waste our precious time on Pakistan.”
The statement comes as Tahor Hussain Rana, one of the masterminds of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, has been extradited to India by the United States. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the move a major step towards bringing justice to the victims of the attacks. Jaishankar also appreciated Washington’s support and stressed the importance of counter-terrorism cooperation with the US.
